English Text of Instruction
a)Safety First
- Push button fire alarm boxes (number is mentioned here) are provided on your floor. Please read the operating instruction posted on them.
- Please read the operating instructions on the body of the fire extinguisher provided in your floor.
- Nearest exit from your flat is shown in this plan (plan to be provided here).
- Assemble on the ground floor at the location indicated on the following plan. For clarification, contact the Warden or Deputy Warden. (plan of assembly point in ground floor to be provided here)
b) For personal and collective safety, notify the Warden/Deputy Warden in case.
- Exit route and/or door are obstructed by dumping of boxes or such other loose materials.
- Staircase door, lift lobby doors do not close automatically or completely.
- Push button fire alarm or fire extinguisher are obstructed or damaged or seem to be out of order.
c) If you Discover a Fire
- Break the glass and push the button of the nearest fire alarm and call the fire service.
- With assistance from the floor Warden if needed, fight fire with the in-built facilities on your floor.
- Evacuate, if so instructed by the Warden
d) When you hear Evacuation Instructions
- Immediately leave the floor taking the nearest staircase.
- Report to your Warden on reaching the predetermined assembly point outside the building.
- Try not to use lifts.
- Avoid going to cloak room.
- Refrain from running or shouting, do not get panicked.
- Do not waste a moment collecting personal belongings.
- Keep the lift lobby and staircase doors shut.

Occupant load is 500 or less.
•Minimum 3 Exit for 500 to 1000 people.
•Minimum 4 Exit for more than 1000 people.
•Exits should be located so that the
distance to the exit is not more than 25-45 meters, depending on the type of
occupancy.
•Exits should always be free from any kind
of block. It should be an auto enclosure door. It should never be locked.
Fixed
Installation System
Water Source Of the Fixed Installation System
In a high rise building there should be a
provision to-
Preserve
50,000 gallons water in the under ground
water reservoir in basement or ground floor.
Preserve
25,000 gallons water in the over head tank on the top of the building’s roof.
2/3rd of
the preserved water must be kept for fire fighting.
Wet Riser
In
each floor there must have one Wet Riser point in every 600 Sq. meter.
If it
is more than 600 Sq. meter then another one must be included.
Each
Riser point should have non returning & Pressure Reducing ( 3 Bar) Landing
Valve, the diameter of the Hose Pipe will be
1.5 Inches (38 mm) & the length of the delivery hose pipe must be 30
meter with shut-off type nozzle.
Delivery
hose pipe should be preserved in a covered box of 20x20 inches in size in
flaking condition.
Establishment Of Automatic Sprinkler System
One
upright type sprinkler head must be established within 9.3 square meters.
The
heat resistant capacity of fusible solder/glass bulb would be 68 Degree
Celsius. Maximum of 40 sprinkler head considered as a zone.
Fire Hydrant System
Two
way type Fire Hydrant system with test pressure 300 psi & working pressure
150 psi with (2-3/4) inches diameter control valve of Female instantaneous
outlet (Female coupling) and (2-1/2) inches diameter inlet (male coupling) should be installed.
Establish Fire Fighting Pump House
One
500 GPM Fire pump must be kept in basement or ground floor for fire fighting to
ensure sufficient water supply.
To
maintain the required flow of the water supply frequently, one Jockey pump
should be installed.
Smoke and Heat Detection System
There must be a provision of keeping one
smoke and one heat detector for every 100 sq. meter floor area of basement,
ground floor ramp, drive way, car parking area, electric sub station, pump
house, stand by generator room, enclosure stair, firefighting pump house, fire
command station and drop of area (The area where some vehicles are kept in the
spacious area in front of the related institution).
The heat resistant capacity of Heat
Detector should be of minimum 60 degree & maximum 127 Degree Celsius.
Emergency Light
Ensure the establishment of Emergency
light in every point of building’s such as Staircase, Safety lobby, Corridor,
Fire command station, Fire fighting pump house, Emergency Generator room,
Electric sub station, Emergency exit, Community space, Fire lift, Drive way of
ground floor or basement, Parking area and utility service area.
Alternate Staircase
The building should have alternate
staircase as like as emergency exit.
It will be better if it is auto
enclosure.
If building is 15 storied it’s all
alternate staircase will be one hour fire rated auto enclosure type.
Alternate staircase landing area and
safety lobby should be preserve Auto enclosure door and the door should be two
hours fire rated from heat and smoke.
Fire Lift
If a building has two lifts then one lift
should be preserved as a fire lift or if it is four or above then two lift
should be assigned as Fire lift.
The Fire Lift should be of auto enclosure
type included two hours fire ratted door.
Auto Smoke and Heat Venting System
To ensure the reducing of dense smoke and
extreme heat instantly, it is required to establish a auto vent system in the
ground floor and basement.
Venting system must be established in
such a way that once sprinkler system is activated then venting system would
automatically activate.
Stand By Generator Room
It is must to establish 1 stand by
Generator room in the basement or ground floor.
Its wall should be 4 hours fire ratted
and door should be capable to protect heat and smoke at least two hours fire
rated auto enclosure type.
In case of failure of the normal
electricity supply, the stand will automatically activate. It will cover all
parts of the building.
PA System
In each floor there must be a provision
to establish sufficient number of PA system.
The PA system will be controlled by Fire
command Station.
Service Duct
The wall of the service duct must be fire
rated for at least 4 hours
and
all opening door must be at least 2 hours
fire rated from heat and smoke.
Ramp ,Drive Way and Parking Place
If the car parking area is situated in
the basement, ground floor or other floor, then it is must to incorporate about
ramp, Driveway and Parking place in the fire fighting floor plan.
To Install Portable fire Extinguisher
In A-1, A-2 and A-3 type building there
should be a provision of installing additional one ABC type dry chemical powder
Fire Extinguisher & one CO2 type
fire extinguisher 6 kg capacity for 1000 sq ft. in each floor.
Main Panel Board and Repeater Panel Board
All smoke and heat detector, manual call
point, alarm bell and strobe, fireman call point, vent and Air blower machine
which is connected with heat
and
smoke detectors cable must be connected
with main control panel in buildings including basement.
Fire Command Station
It must be established in the ground
floor of a building.
To ensure all detection system and
repeater panel board and fireman connection with main panel board.
High Voltage Line From Building
The Distance of the Medium or High Voltage line would be
Consider from the Building’s boundary line.
The Distance of High Voltage line should
be vertically 3.5 meter & Horizontally 1.75 meter for 33 KV line.
Illuminating Exit Sign and Emergency Light For Stare
Illuminating Exit Sign & Emergency
light in the Staircase/ Emergency Exit must be provided.
Artificial light should be arranged.
